I have a confession to make, I’m 26 years old and I still have a teddy bear. In my defense he’s not your ordinary, run of the mill hug fest. Patty is small, green, Irish, and incredibly well travelled. He was given to me by my friend Bret in our junior year of high school. Which was ten years ago today (Holy Snickers when did that happen?!?). In honor of my one constant companion over the past decade I thought I would share a bit about why he’s so awesome and the one thing I won’t leave home without.
The story of Patty actually starts with another bear, Harrington, that Bret used to carry around. Why we started carrying around bears I can’t actually remember but I’m about 96% sure we were being influenced by something else that’s green! I really wanted Harrington to have a BFF, because obviously all bears need a bestie, and so entered Patty. That bear went everywhere with me, and I do mean everywhere. Let me tell you, no bear has ever partied harder. I’m absolutely sure that he’s my good luck charm; we’ve been through some way too close scrapes together, typical by products of a misspent youth. He came to college with me (Patty, I’m sorry I made you live in a frat house) where he participated in many a round of circle of death (he’s an ACTUAL “little green man”!!!). He’s made the journey to every different town, state, and country I’ve been to in the past ten years. He’s lived in six different cities, three countries ( this has just made me realize I move entirely much) four states, four cars, and probably 400 purses.
And he’s the main reason I go cuckoo-for-cocopuffs crazy about St. Patty’s Day, because today I can carry around my little green Irish bear and not look like a complete weirdo!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATTY!!! ....Now it’s off to get pissed at Mulligans!
Oh my that is just too cute!!, i have a puppet called Clifford i take on all my travels too!!, absolutely nothing wrong with it!!!. You go Clifford and green teddy!!.
